Exmouth 27 - 5 Honiton

 

Although Exmouth had the best of the early play, Honiton were the first to score a try after 25 minutes. Dick Holifield leveled the scores just before half time with a try for Exmouth.

Following the interval, the home side sorted out their first half problems. After 12 minutes, Andy Melbourne, making his debut for Exmouth, broke from a ruck to drive through the Honiton defence for a try in the corner. Melbourne, a 6ft4in lock forward has switched allegiance from South West 2 rivals Newton Abbot. His Dad, Steve, is a former Exmouth player and coach.

Exmouth now took complete control and No8 Chris Ellor touched down from a maul on the Honiton line. Melbourne scored his second try to complete a dream debut.

With 10 minutes to go, it was the turn of the backs to score the final try with outside center Justin Kirby getting on the scoresheet. Steve Hexter kicked the conversion.
