Exmouth 28 - 0 Tiverton
Exmouth entertained Tiverton at the Imperial Ground in the ¼ final of the Devon Senior Cup and on winning 28-0, now look forward to the semi final game at home against Torquay on 15th March.
Despite conceding an early penalty from the kick off, Exmouth took control of the game restricting Tiverton to their own 22. It was perhaps surprising that it took 16 minutes before the first score was on the board. Good work from the forwards saw Ben Boswell held up in front of the posts from where quick hands allowed Rich Cadywould to go over in the corner, kicking his own long range touchline conversion.
Cadywould struck a well taken penalty as Tiverton continued to infringe at the breakdown, giving Exmouth a 10-0 lead.
Exmouth were unlucky not to go further ahead when Paul Morgan was high tackled by the Tiverton full back on the try line, resulting in a yellow card. Exmouth declined a penalty and opted for a scrum, but the ball was knocked on as the half time whistle blew.

From the re-start, Exmouth took full advantage of the extra man and in the first 10 minutes of the half, Paul Morgan was able to snatch 2 well taken tries. The first try came from turnover ball by Garry Hooper who offloaded to Jack Downie who sold an outrageous dummy before giving the ball to Morgan for him to go over in the corner. The second score followed good forward work with Man of the Match Andrew Smith to the fore, enabling Morgan to score a replica try in the corner, but both difficult conversions failed.
2 minutes later, Morgan completed his hat trick after Seb Phelps’ initial break following another good line out but again the conversion was missed.
Despite dominating set pieces and having an abundance of ball, simple errors cost the Cockles any further try scoring opportunities but Cadywould struck another penalty on the half hour which sealed victory for the Cockles.
This was a much improved performance from the whole team against a well motivated Tiverton side, who failed to deal with Exmouth’s ability to move the ball at pace.
