Maidenhead 0 - 10 Exmouth

Facing a long away trip to a side that has not won a game this season had the potential of a giant banana skin for the improving Cockles. To be fair to the Maidenhead outfit they gave the Cockles a run for there money earlier in the season and had lost a number of games by less than a score so the game was never going to be easy.

 
With a dry pitch it looked ideal for the Cockles running game, and the early exchanges backed this up, Gary Hooper and Mark Wathes both going close to opening the scoring, this aside the Cockles found the homeside competitive up front and struggled to find a rhythm in the setpiece.

 
Seeming to hold the upper hand the Cockles at last touched down through Wathes who burst through several defenders to score, the conversion and a latter penalty missed the half ended Exmouth just the one score ahead.

 
A positive start to the second half saw Exmouth string together numerous phases, Dan Manns less than a metre short of scoring adding to the frustration as the Cockles failed to capitalise on the overall superiority.

 
Adam Hooper and Tony Emmins were causing the homeside great problems in the contact area with Emmins turning over an incredible amount of ball , eventually Cockles Talisman winger Jack Downie settled a few nerves with a trademark score ghosting through the defence from 30 metres out, again the  conversion was missed and will give the kickers plenty to work on this week in training.

 
Maidenhead to their credit mounted their best attack of the game in the last quarter but to no avail, and the game eventually fizzled to an end.

 
The Cockles will take heart from the win their second on the bounce on the road and have not conceded a try in the last two outings, with the arrival of Bournemouth this Saturday in front of the Clubs former players the team will need to take every opportunity given.
